Local Community

Our chapter is focused on becoming a more customer-focused organization that is in touch with needs of the communities of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and is expanding its programs and services to meet those needs.

As a major component of its mission, the Red Cross is committed to bringing vital lifesaving information and education to people of all ages. Visit our "Take a Class" section for information on where and when you can receive Red Cross training on first aid, CPR, aquatics safety and much, much more.

Your American Red Cross also participates in health fairs and other types of informative, community-based events. Visit "How we serve" for information on how you can request Red Cross representation at an upcoming community event.

Most families, when they suffer a disaster, have enough resources to get back on their feet with basic assistance from the Red Cross. However, growing numbers of disaster victims require more intensive support and longer-term care in order to return to independent living. To meet the special needs of these individuals, our chapter constructed The Red Cross House in West Philadelphia. The Red Cross House Supportive Services Program is built on our existing Extended Care program offerings and offers disaster clients additional services such as expanded counseling, life skills and safety training, healthcare screenings, job placement services, and local transportation services.

More than ever before, our consumers demand convenient services. To accommodate those needs, our chapter is beginning to provide "Distance Learning" training via the Web. After completion of the online portion of the course, students will complete their skills testing and certification at a chapter training site. Our chapter also allows our consumers to search for courses on the web by location and topic.
