Hourly Instructor


Reports To: Manager, H & S
FLSA Status: Per Diem

SUMMARY Hourly Instructors provide instruction to clients and staff on a variety of topics including First Aid, Adult & Infant CPR, Lifeguard Training, etc.  Hourly Instructors lead programs at Red Cross offices, workplace and community locations as scheduled throughout the five (5) County areas (Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Chester,  and Delaware).  Flexible schedule options include day, evening and Saturday opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provides training programs and presentations as assigned and authorized throughout the Chapter area in how to prevent, prepare for and respond to life’s emergencies. 

Transports and maintains all materials and equipment needed for each course, such as books, mannequins, TV/VCR, etc.

Maintains training supplies and replenishes as needed.

Completes all course-related paperwork on a timely basis.

Utilizes excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills to convey information to students.

Understands and follows policies and procedures in training and program administration as detailed in instructor guides, handbooks, and Standard Operating Procedure manual.

Provides programs in a flexible and informative manner while meeting the National Red Cross guidelines. 

Attends in-service meetings and instructor update sessions on a quarterly basis.

Maintains necessary instructor certification and other related certification as needed.

Performs other duties as needed to support departmental and organizational goals which may include, but not be limited to, participating in Disaster related courses and conducting Community Disaster Education Programs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus a minimum of 6 months of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Prior training and facilitation skills helpful.  Certification in First Aid/CPR helpful, but not required prior to hire.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Must possess excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.  Bilingual ability (any language) is desirable.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and colleagues.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS   Basic math skills required.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with complex situations.  Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, schedule or demonstration format.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Current drivers license. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to manage conflicts and stressful situations in a positive, customer service focused manner.  Must have access to vehicle to travel throughout the Chapter area and the willingness and availability to teach programs at least 2-3 times per month.  Computer skills helpful, but not required.
