Disaster Action Team Trainee

Purpose

The entry level within the Disaster Action Team is the DAT Trainee.  As a trainee, a disaster volunteer has the opportunity to observe and participate in disaster response while concurrently receiving the formal training to become a DAT Technician.  Assignment as a DAT Trainee requires completion of application and orientation to ARC Disaster Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
  • Respond to local disasters with an experienced Technician
  • Participate in advanced training when offered
  • Participate in DAT development and team activities
  • Respond to local disasters with a DAT Technician. 

Relationships

Reports to DAT Captain or Coordinator

Qualifications

  • All applicable clearances received with no reports
  • Complete all necessary training

  • On job training
  • Introduction to Disaster Services
  • Mass Care
  • Shelter Operations
  • Family Services
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
  • Preventing Disease Transmission

Time Commitment

It is preferred that DAT trainees volunteering in the city sign up for at least one 12 hour on-call shift per week.  The shifts run from 6:00am – 6:00pm or 6:00pm – 6:00am.  Branch Captains may decide how they want their team to respond
