Position Title

Disaster Mental Health Volunteer

Purpose

Sign up for specific shifts to provide counseling and referrals for individuals, group or families. Respond to request for MH intervention after local disasters. Provide individual or group de-briefings for all staff and volunteers returning from long term assignment. Other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
  • Provide individual, group and family counseling
  • Update and debrief staff and volunteers returning from long-term assignment
  • Prepare and arrange meeting location and time for staff and volunteers
  • Participate in committee meetings

Relationships

Reports to Specialty Volunteers Coordinator

Qualifications

Degree and licensed in the field of psychology, social worker, counseling, psychiatry or psychiatric nursing.

  • Orientation to American Red Cross
  • On job training
  • Introduction to Disaster Services
  • Disaster Mental Health Overview
  • First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Disaster Mental Health I
