Emergency Communications

Location

Emergency Services, Chapter Headquarters

Purpose

Coordinate disaster response and assist in Disaster Action Team administration.  This position responds professionally to all inquiries regarding blood, health and safety, general media, etc.  This position is also the contact point for chapter personnel needing to reach each other.

Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
  • Record phone or personal intake and process requests for disaster relief from disaster clients and municipal authorities such as Fire Department and Police.
  • Dispatch and Coordinate Disaster Action Teams for immediate disaster response.
  • Schedule Home Visits
  • Provide information and referral to general public
  • Follow-up on Disaster Logs and Responses
  • Provide emergency message service and financial assistance to members of the military and/or their families per National and Chapter AFES protocols and procedures as required.
  • Provided emergency message service and disaster welfare inquiries to members of the international community per National and Chapter International Services protocols and procedures as required.

Reports to ES Volunteer Resource Committee/Staff Liaison

Training

  • Orientation to American Red Cross
  • On job training
  • Introduction to Disaster Services (self study)
  • Art of Helping (1-day course)
  • Communications Standard Operating Procedures

Time Commitment

Minimum 1 day a week (Mon. – Sun.).  For one 4 hour shift
