Are You Ready?
Disasters are random and unpredictable. At work, at school, or in the
car - you could be anywhere when disaster strikes. Will you know if your children are safe? How will you locate each other? The Red Cross of will be there for you whenever disaster strikes.
The Red Cross can shelter 10,000 people in the event of a large-scale disaster. GE Trailer Fleet Services of Wayne, PA made a strong commitment to the Red Cross and to our community, donating 10 large trailers for our disaster response.
“EACH TRAILER IS FILLED WITH SUPPLIES AND STRATEGICALLY PLACED THROUGHOUT OUR FIVE COUNTIES, READY TO MOVE AT A MOMENTS NOTICE THANKS TO CEO JOE ARTUSO AND HIS TEAM AT GE. PARTNERS LIKE GE STRENGTHEN OUR REGION’S PREPAREDNESS FOR DISASTERS OF ALL SIZES. WE COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT THEM,” Foley said.
Preparing our community for large and small disasters alike, we have agreements for 382 shelter locations throughout our five counties. That means if your neighborhood gas main breaks or you’re flooded out of your home you will have a place to stay.
The Red Cross is committed to ensuring that our community is prepared. When the City of Philadelphia launched its Emergency Preparedness Review Committee last year the Red Cross was there, serving on various subcommittees and panels to evaluate Philadelphia’s existing plans.
September is National Preparedness Month. Take this time to make sure you are prepared. Get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, be informed, and get involved in preparing your community for the unexpected.
Making a plan is a vital part of a family’s emergency preparedness. As a family, determine what disasters may occur in your community, and gather necessary supplies. Identify two places to meet in case you cannot return home after a disaster, and an out-of-town friend as your contact. “After a disaster, local telephone lines may be busy and overloaded so it’s often easier to call out of the affected area,” points out Maureen Tomoschuk, Senior Director of Emergency Services. Lastly, take the time to review and practice your plan.
