In the midst of disaster, she gave what she could
Maria recalls how members of the Red Cross came to
her aid, provided her with solace, and blankets to stay warm. “THE VOLUNTEERS AT THE SCENE WERE WONDERFUL. THEY MADE US FEEL COMFORTABLE,” Marie said.
Three months later, Maria heard about another devastating fire nearby. Grateful for the Red Cross; Maria sent a gift of appreciation and support. “Now it’s our turn to help others, $100 isn’t much. But it’s my way of saying thank you. If the money can help the Red Cross help other families, then I’ve done all I can.”
The O’Neills plan to move into their home by December 2006. Maria smiled and said, “I’LL MAKE SURE THE RED CROSS GETS AN INVITATION TO MY HOUSEWARMING PARTY. THEN I CAN SAY THANK YOU IN TRUE ITALIAN FASHION.”
