Volunteerism

The Way of Life at the Red Cross

Each year, more than one million Americans volunteer with the Red Cross, touching lives. Last year, 8,377 people shared their time and talents, delivering hope locally. It is only with the dedication of our volunteers and support of our generous donors that the Red Cross is there to answer the call for help, one family at a time, whenever and wherever disaster strikes.

"This is one special night where we give a special thanks to our volunteers, the backbone of our organization, and celebrate their gift of giving their time."
~Tom Foley, CEO

This September, SEPA honored our volunteers at the Celebration of Volunteers event. One of the most uplifting events of the year, we recognized hundreds of volunteers who have given five, ten, twenty or more years to the Red Cross. There was a standing ovation when the Red Cross honored Ruth Brown for 45 years of service and Thomas Warner for his work over the past 55 years. When Harry Truman was president, Thomas started giving his time to help teach health and safety.

“When you look at all the years of extraordinary service represented at the event, it is truly inspiring. Throughout the evening, we heard inspirational stories of all of the services provided this year by our volunteers,” said Tom Foley, SEPA Chapter, CEO. “This is one special night where we give a special thanks to our volunteers, the backbone of our organization, and celebrate their gift of giving their time.”

Every day, Red Cross volunteers - your neighbors - provide a broad array of vital services to people in need in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Red Cross volunteers perform such critical services as responding to disasters, staffing blood drives, providing lifesaving training, educating our youth, assisting with day-to-day office work, and much more. These everyday heroes are a

part of everything we do, and there is an opportunity for everyone.
