eNews from Southeastern Pennsylvania Dear Friend of the American Red Cross: The Red Cross is made up of everyday heroes – a place where people like you come together to help each other. Your support today helps ensure that the Red Cross is the place where someone you never met before gives you food and comfort after a fire, where someone you don’t know saves your life, where neighbors shelter you after a fire, and where total strangers give you their blood to help save your life. As long as people suffer from disasters, our work is never done . On the heels of a demanding winter for local disaster response, we are kicking off the spring with a special month of activities for Red Cross Month by celebrating America’s Hometown Heroes. Red Cross donors and volunteers show us so many times the meaning of service, so it is fitting that this March we honor each of you through our month long celebration. Almost 200 of our hometown heroes helped the Red Cross with its signature service project on Martin Luther King Day, delivering the message of preparedness in a meaningful way. 539 community leaders and volunteers packed 2,133 Red Cross emergency preparedness kits then trained volunteers in disaster preparedness. The kits were delivered to residents throughout our region who were asked to spread the preparedness message to friends and relatives. We trained over 1,000 people in disaster preparedness at eight sites that day. We asked those trained to pass the training forward to others, which resulted in pledges to train a total of 19,837 people. Take a moment and think of the heroes in your life. Is there a hero that helped you through a disaster, or even saved the life of a loved one? Do you know a hero trained by the Red Cross, who is standing ready to save your life? Are you a hero whose financial commitment to our mission is the bedrock for the programs and services that we provide 365 days a year? It is only with the support of heroes like you that the Red Cross is able to answer the call for help, one family at a time, whenever disaster strikes. I urge you to step up again this March and step out at one of the many Red Cross Month activities celebrating our heroes. From CPR Saturday to the Help Can’t Wait Awards and the Red Ball to the Red Cross Walk to Save Lives, there is something for everyone. Thank you for continuing to join us in giving hope to our neighbors and the promise of help for unexpected emergencies. All the Best,
