Greetings,
As Red Cross Month draws to a close, countless
thousands have seen our symbol waving on flags
throughout Center City Philadelphia and lit up against
the night sky on the Cira Centre and Philadelphia
Inquirer/Daily News buildings. Many
more have learned about the American Red Cross
through special events like the kickoff to Red Cross
Month at Liberty Place, CPR Saturday, Red Ball and
Help Can't Wait Awards.
But no one knows more about the importance of our
work than the 124 families who received emergency
help from Red Cross workers responding to 82
disasters this month. This work is made possible by
Emergency Services volunteers who respond to
disasters 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
We salute all our volunteers for their part in making
our Red Cross a symbol of hope, help and humanity
throughout our region and around the world.
Sincerely,

Chief Executive Officer

Senior Director Emergency Services

A Salute to Local Heroes
Tom Brokaw wrote that "a hero is someone who rises
quietly to the occasion and then slips quietly away."
We believe that President Bush had that definition in
mind when he followed the lead of every president
since Franklin D. Roosevelt and declared March as
American Red Cross Month.
