Greetings,
Welcome to the July 2008 edition of the Emergency
Services newsletter.
As we close out FY08, we want to thank all of our
volunteers and supporters who have given so much to
so many so often in the past year. With your help, we
have responded to 858 disasters and helped 4,073
people through their darkest hours.
We have also trained thousands of people in
life-saving skills like CPR and first aid. We begin our
newsletter with the story of one of those people, a
local high school student, who showed just how
critical those skills can be.
Thanks again for all that you do for the American Red
Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Best Regards,

Chief Executive Officer

SEPA Chapter Responds to Disasters in Midwest
First there were tornadoes in Iowa. Then rivers flooded
in Indiana and Wisconsin. Then the Mississippi River
and its tributaries put much of central Iowa under
water.

SEPA Chapter Update
June was an interesting month for us—we had some spectacular outcomes involving work by and with our very youngest and our very oldest volunteers.

Disaster Response
|
|
May Responders Recognized
In May, we responded to 67 local disasters, helping
268 people with emergency food, clothing and shelter.
We would not have been able to assist those
hundreds of clients in need without the help of the 78
volunteers and staff who responded when called day
or night.

Delaware County Volunteers Celebrate the Year
The Delaware County Disaster Action Team held its
annual picnic and monthly meeting at the home of
Dan and Amy Hagan. Our annual picnic was a pot luck
celebration of volunteerism and a relaxing time for
everyone to catch up with each other and to share their
plans for the coming summer months ahead.

Southeastern PA Takes an Important Step Toward Preparedness
Do you know how you will receive important
information before, during, and after a disaster?
Most of us are already familiar with emergency
watches and warnings delivered over television and
radio. The media has been and will continue to be
critical to keeping citizens safe and informed.
