Greetings,
Welcome to the June 2008 issue of the Emergency
Services newsletter.
We typically fill this newsletter with stories of the great
disaster work of our staff and volunteers. This month,
we begin with a response of a different kind, one in
which our Chapter helped reunite a family divided for
66 years.
Our team still found time to respond to 67 disasters in
May, bringing Red Cross assistance to 268 people
when they needed it most.
Thanks to all of you for your help in doing our work.
Best Regards,

Chief Executive Officer

Senior Director Emergency Services

Red Cross Finds Siblings Separated in Holocaust
Emergency Services staff and volunteers have helped
reunite two long-lost siblings separated for 66 years
by the chaos that reigned in wartime Europe.
The American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania
(SEPA) Chapter, in cooperation with the Holocaust
and War Victims Tracing Center of the American Red
Cross in Baltimore, successfully located Irene
Famulak, 83, of the Art Museum section of
Philadelphia, on behalf of her 80-year-old brother,
Wssewold Galizkij.

Red Cross Urges Renewed Preparedness After Two Uneventful Hurricane Seasons
There's no guarantee that this hurricane season will
be as quiet as the past two seasons, and America
needs to be ready. Fewer than expected U.S. landfalls
over the past two years may have lulled some people
into a false sense of security, but we do know that
being prepared can save lives and property during a
disaster.

SEPA Chapter Update
April 19th was as beautiful a day as we have seen in
the five years that Pat Croce has kicked off our "Red
Cross Walk to Save Lives." Over 1,000 people, 29
corporate teams, 8 Philadelphia High School Red
Cross Clubs, more than 60 dogs, an 83 year old
grandmother and a 3 week old baby "stepped up and
stepped out" on behalf of this Chapter of the Red
Cross. It was a great way to start the day.

April Responders Recognized
In April, we responded to 84 local disasters, helping
437 people with emergency food, clothing and shelter.
We would not be able to assist those hundreds of
clients in need without the help of the 111 volunteers
and staff who responded when called day or night.
