Greetings,
As we celebrated Volunteer Appreciation Week in April,
we at the American Red Cross Southeastern
Pennsylvania (SEPA) Chapter were reminded that
every week - indeed, every day - is an appropriate time
to recognize the importance of our volunteers.
Volunteers represent 98% of our workforce, but they
make all the difference to our disaster-affected
families. Just last month, 139 SEPA responders
answered the call around the clock to provide
emergency Red Cross assistance to 123 families in
the wake of 70 disasters. In addition, SEPA workers deployed to national disaster relief operations in four states following the rare Nor'easter that struck the region.
On behalf of all the people who benefit from your help
every day, we thank you for your efforts and the critical
support that makes our work possible.
Sincerely,

Chief Executive Officer

Senior Director Emergency Services

Celebrating Volunteers Who Choose Not to Stand Idly By
Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel was once
asked what he viewed as the greatest
commandment. His response was articulate,
poignant and immediate. "The greatest
commandment," he said, "is that thou shalt not stand
idly by." As we celebrate national Volunteer Week this
year, the American Red Cross celebrates its 8,377
volunteers who honor and embody that
commandment.
