Greetings!
Welcome to the latest issue of the Emergency
Services Newsletter.
As we usher in the month of September, we welcome
National Preparedness Month with some helpful guides
to ensuring you and your family are prepared when
disaster strikes.
A year later, we take a look back at Hurricane Katrina
and the incredible Red Cross response to help the
victims of that calamity. And we have a report from
the event to recognize the many volunteers, staff
and partners who helped make the Lebanon
Repatriation a success.
Thank you for your continued service to the Red
Cross; we’re able to serve people in need because of
people like you.
Sincerely,
Maureen Tomoschuk
Senior Director, Emergency Services

Are You Ready?
Prepare for the unexpected by taking action now, the
American Red Cross reminds residents of
Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Following a disaster, the Red Cross helps families in
many ways, including providing them temporary
shelter in area hotels, motels or at Red Cross House.
Wondering how to help families who have pets?
Disaster Assistance Team Leader Terry Johnson has
put together a list of local hotels that will accept
pets. The information comes from
www.1clickpethotels.com. Please note
that the letter K indicates there are kitchens present
at these hotels:

A note from Joan Bloch
I will never forget seeing the magnitude of
devastation from Hurricane Katrina and listening to
the stories of the many volunteers and evacuees.
Feeling trusted, just because I was a nurse, while I
listened and tried to help makes me grateful and
proud to be a nurse.

Celebration of Volunteers
|
|
After an intense year, we honor you!
2006 was an incredible year for SEPA Chapter, and
the Red Cross will honor the many people who made
it all possible later this month. You should have
already received your invitation to the annual
Celebration of Volunteers and Annual Meeting. We'd
like to see as many ES volunteers as possible
as we look back at the past year.
