Dear Devon,

As we debut a new format for our newsletter this month, we introduce it with a note of thanks to the hundreds of Red Cross volunteers who every day answer the call of duty.

July was a remarkable month for Emergency Services—ushered in by widespread flooding, punctuated by apartment fires, sweltering heat and power outages, and closing out with an inspirational operation to welcome more than 4,000 Lebanese- Americans forced to evacuate by intensifying conflict in the Middle East.

More remarkable still was the response of volunteers and staff who made our work possible. To all of you, we say thank you for your energy, for your compassion, and for your dedication to our mission.

Sincerely,

Maureen Tomoschuk
Senior Director, Emergency Services

"Proud to be an American Red Cross Volunteer"
by Richard P. Johnson, Ph.D.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to have been involved in this very important humanitarian effort. As one of the expatriates said, “This why I am so proud to be an American.” It is also what makes me so proud to be an American Red Cross volunteer.

July by the Numbers

A Note from Tom Foley

This may have been the single most extraordinary month of work by our volunteers and staff in the 20 months I have been here. I thought this numerical summary might give the picture as well as any words I might put to paper.
