Find a backpack or duffel bag that will be your disaster supplies kit

Buy one flashlight for every member of your family and put it in the bag

Purchase batteries for each of the flashlights and two extra packs!

Choose a family or friend out of town to be your Emergency Contact.

Make a wallet card for everyone in your family with the contact number.

Add other family members and doctors’ numbers to the contact cards.

Choose a place out of the area that you and your family can go if you need to evacuate. Remember pets!

Learn the difference between a watch and a warning.

Purchase one gallon of water for everyone in your family.

Put a map in your car incase you must use unfamiliar roads to evacuate.

Talk with your neighbors about emergencies. Arrange for someone to check on older or disabled residents.

Call your local emergency management office and find out if you live in an area that floods easily.

Decide who in the family will be responsible for helping children or older adults if you needed to evacuate.

Put a first aid kit into your disaster supplies bag.

Write down a list of any medications that you or anyone in the family takes. Also, include the Rx numbers

Put a manual can opener in your disaster supplies kit

Purchase another gallon of water for everyone in your family.

Purchase a battery operated radio for your disaster supplies kit

Show each family member how to turn off utilities at the main switch.

Photocopy important records/documents. Put these copies in your supply kit.

Place a copy of Photo ID (for all family members) in your kit

Practice evacuating your house in case of a sudden emergency.

Put away some extra clothing & blankets for quick getaway.

Add special items: eyeglasses, contact solution, diapers, etc. to your kit. Think about what you need.

Have a practice call to your family contact. Make sure everyone calls and says where and how they are.

Put a little cash/coins into your kit. ATMs will not work if the power is out.

Determine which room in your home is safest if you need to shelter-in-place

Make a list of the items you would need to bring inside in the event of a storm.

Purchase the third gallon of water for everyone in your family.
