is a foundation course for
all paid and volunteer staff because it deals with our
historical roots, our identity as part of the International Red
Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and the reasons for American Red
Cross involvement internationally. It presents an overview of
international humanitarian law (IHL), tracing and other
international social services (ISS), and international relief and
development (IRD). This course is essential to the work of everyone
at the chapter/station because it highlights the Fundamental
Principles that provide direction and guidance for all American Red
Cross service delivery. This course is distinct from and should not
be confused with the new paid and volunteer staff orientation You’re in Good Company:
American Red Cross Orientation (ARC
2671), but it can be used to build on the new self-paced orientation
to the organization as a whole. This
is a required course for all SEPA employees. Class
offered 10/4/06, 2/7/07, 6/6/07
HUMANITY IN THE MIDST OF WAR (INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW) (IHL):
This course covers the legal protections for people impacted by war
and discusses the work of the Red Cross on behalf of victims of war.
The course builds on the Introduction to IHL presented in the OIS
course and provides greater insight into the role of the Red Cross
under international law. Prerequisites:
If available, the OIS course is a prerequisite.
Class
Size: Maximum, 20; minimum, 12 Course offered 11/16/06
TRACING AND OTHER INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL SERVICES: This revised course
is essential for caseworkers who are doing or will do the
international casework. Having taken the OIS course,
participants in this course will already have a grounding in the Red
Cross Movement and the Fundamental Principles and the reasons that
American Red Cross offers international social services in all
communities. Participants
who have taken the prerequisite OIS course are in a position to
focus on the case studies and exercises which are the heart of this
course. The course can be given to as few as six people. It is also
recommended for more experienced caseworkers to keep their skills
honed and information updated. This course is essential for improving service delivery of a
MUST service. Class
Size:
Maximum, 20; minimum, 6 Course
offered 9/14/06
(please call Deborah Cooper 215-299-0480 if interested in this
special course).
