Red Cross to Stop Using Together We Can Save a Life as Brand Slogan

March 20, 2006

This message is from Chuck Connor, Senior Vice President, Communication and Marketing:

Together We Can Save a Life has been the American Red Cross brand slogan for nearly five years and has worked well for us on many fronts. It has helped people understand the mission that underlies our services, and it underscored the public's essential role in accomplishing that mission. However, it is not always useful in times of disaster, and for regulatory reasons we have been unable to use it with Biomedical Services communications.

Consequently, we believe it is time to discontinue Together We Can Save a Life as our slogan. Effective immediately, we will cease including it on new communications, and ask that you do so as well. Over the next month, it will be deleted on redcross.org and CrossNet pages. You should continue to use any existing products that bear the slogan, revising them as your supplies are exhausted. Field units have until March 1, 2008, to use up materials with the slogan.

There are no immediate plans to adopt a new brand slogan, and I ask that you do not create your own slogans as multiple slogans confuse the public. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Robinson, director, Creative Resources, at (202) 303-4223.
