Fundraising Tips for The Red Cross Walk
Now that you have registered for "Noah's Sparks" our
Emergency Services Team, it is time for you to begin collecting
funds. Here are some fun ideas. Also you can easily send an
email from the Red Cross Walk web page requesting donations www.redcrosswalk.org
1. Start now!
Apply the same determined approach to your fundraising as you do to your
race training. Carry a pledge form with you at all times – you never
know who you'll meet.
2. Set a target
Aim high! Set a fundraising target and go after it; you'll be surprised
how quickly your pledge tally climbs.
3. Enlist help from others
Encourage your family, friends and co-workers to help fundraise on your
behalf. Get your friends to ask their friends and contacts – you'll be
amazed at how many people you can reach.
4. Explain how the pledge money will be used
Tell your prospective donors that their pledge will support excellent
health care in Ottawa – something that’s important to everyone in
the community.
5. Tell your personal story
Tell people why you are fundraising. Make it personal. Whatever
motivates you to fundraise could well motivate others to donate on your
behalf.
6. Make it easy for people to pledge
Give your prospects every opportunity to pledge at their convenience:
e-mail, online, by fax or in person.
7. Face-to-face gets it done
It's more difficult for potential sponsors to say no in person. If you
can’t meet them, send a letter, fax or e-mail as they are harder to
ignore.
8. Be creative
Find out if your company will match your donations dollar for dollar.
Start a competition among your friends to see who can raise the most
funds. Encourage people to increase their donations over previous years.
9. Who do you ask?
It may seem daunting, but the fact is, you already have a ready-made
list of prospective sponsors: your family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors,
social/hobby/sports groups, your boss, local business owners,
professional contacts…the list goes on.
10. Say thanks
Always thank people for their pledge and tell them how their donation
helps.
